Interviewing Tips

Tip #1 - Whenever you make a claim about yourself in an interview, be sure to follow up immediately with a specific example.

Tip #2 - Never “qualify” your answer to a question. State directly and factually what you ‘do have’ or ‘do know’, rather than what you don’t have or don’t know. People often start an answer with: “well, I really don’t have A LOT of experience in (fill in the blank), what I do have is (fill in another blank). Just state what you do have, don’t assume it’s not enough for the interviewer.

Tip #3 - Generally, you don’t want to give TOO much information when answering a question. However, you CAN volunteer more information if the next question is very obvious.

Tip #4 - The more embarrassing or sensitive a question is, the shorter your answer should be. It is much better to answer awkward questions succinctly.

Tip #5 - If you are not sure about the question being asked, by all means ask for clarification. That’s certainly better than answering the wrong question or giving a confusing, and confused, answer.
